Cherry Blossoms

One of the top 10 reasons for living in D.C.
(Check out Boo's cherry blossom jeans, too!)

I recently read an article in Newsweek, "Liar, Liar Parents on Fire" that talks about how we lie to our kids (the article was written after the author's 7-year-old asked why it was "embarrassing that former New York governor Eliot Spitzer was involved with a cowgirl ring"). Basically according to the pros it is okay to lie to our children (Santa, Easter Bunny, etc) and to teach them to lie to spare someone's feelings. It is a "developmental milestone" because they have empathy. Well, here is our little white lie about this statue of Einstein--he is the Little Einstein's great-grandfather. Hopefully our children won't be in therapy in 20 years after that one.

I thought Bella was looking so big in the first picture and then Einstein makes her look like a little peanut in the 2nd picture! Someday I'll get to see the cherry blossom festival, or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Sad Fact: I haven't seen the blossoms for YEARS.

Oh! I remember the blossoms!! And that statue! So, I'm baffled by those parental lies as well. Part of me wants to say to my kids, "You're right! It doesn't make sense that Santa's reindeer fly or that a bunny can carry baskets or that the Tooth Fairy can fly into your room at night." And by the way, why are we as parents allowing these beings into our home while we are sleeping anyway? Bah-humbug.

Albert Einstein *isn't* the Little Einstein's Great Great Grandpa?

What's this world coming to?
