Vacation

Last weekend S. and I took our first vacation ALONE since Boo was born--yes, that is four years! We had been planning on Spain, but S. needed a new passport and we knew it wouldn't arrive in time. The next idea was Puerto Rico or the D.R., but with hurricane season in full force we decided not to risk it. In the end we decided to go to Chincoteague, VA and use the money we would have used to go to Spain or P.R. to go to Disney World in a couple of weeks with the kids.

It was so fun to get away with S. and not think about who was watching the kids! Why have we not done this before? Oh, we were poor students.

Some highlights:
  • Breakfast at our Bed and Breakfast, The Watson House
  • Riding the waves (we went to the beach 4 separate times in two days!! Oh the speed without kids!)
  • Hairspray Movie (okay, maybe not a highlight for S.)
  • Biking to the beach (first time I've gotten on a bike in 15 years--no joke. I was a little chicken riding on the road. Besides, it was a HUGE bike. I felt like Kermit in the Muppet Movie)
  • Shopping--me getting a really pretty necklace on shells
  • Dinner (okay, the food STUNK--who gives you instant mashed potatoes for a $22 meal?!?!?, but it was fun to be with Sam. We actually had lunch at Central before we headed out of town on Friday--it made up for it--soooooo good)
  • Putt Putting (S. BARELY beat me. But, I got a hole in one, and he didn't).
  • Going up the Lighthouse (I have a fear of heights which S. finds extremely humorous. He doesn't get how I can picture myself falling out of the lighthouse with no opening ).

The kids did great while we were away, except for the fact that Boo woke up a couple times the first night due to the chiming of the Grandfather clock at my parents' house. We did get a warm greeting from the munchkins when we picked them up.

I'd be up for another get-away soon!

Ahhhhh, what it must be like. I am so jealous. Mike and I are still in that poor student phase of our lives (I thought for sure it would be over by now!) Right now it is primarily dates to the temple, which is 2 blocks down the road and can't be beat.

I love to see you comment on my blog, then I know it's time to see what you've been up to...SO FUN! I have a few Canada ideas for you since you're both so adventurous! No heights I promise! Looking forward to Disney pictures...what will Boo wear?

Ahhh, they are fun aren't they? Scott and I treasured our trip to San Fran in January. It was such a treat! Your bike riding sounds much like your ski aversion...for those who forget...see her tagged random things. You are funny!

I had a great time on this trip and I'm interested to see how the kids do at Disney World. Next vacation without the kids: Switzerland & Spain.

What a fun trip. Makes me think of the story we read in elementary school about the horses there. I didn't know you were afraid of heights! And why haven't you been on a bike in 15 years?!? I must admit that when I started riding a road bike on the street this year I got a little freaked out with the cars. I seriously think I swerve towards the cars without meaning to. Trails are a much better choice.

Thank you Brooke. Sam thought I was crazy that I felt like I was going towards the cars and that I could picture myself losing control and running smack into them. Ever since getting my license I have not gone bike riding. A shame, I know. College--walked or used the car I shared. I think it had to do with the fact that my last bike was the one I got when I was 11--a ten speed, light blue. That was the other funny thing with this bike trip--I kept forgetting to push back on the pedals to break. Give me some credit, Sam, it's been 15 years for a bike, but probaby 20 for a bike without hand breaks.

What--we were on the same peninsula and you guys don't stop over to say Hi? :) Glad you got a break from the kids and hope you didn't get bit by any feral ponies...

It's been awhile since I've posted. You've got some great posts, so I just had to comment on them all. That's wonderful you and Sam could get away. I think every couple should!
